The short version
Local Standings is a publication. It is not an ad platform, a lead-generation tool, or a data broker. We collect the minimum information required to publish reports and operate paid subscriptions. We do not sell personal data.
What we collect
Public information about businesses. The reports are built from publicly available information — customer reviews, professional directories, practice websites, and how those websites surface in search engines and AI search. This information is published by the businesses themselves or by their customers. We do not collect private business information from third parties.
Subscriber information. When someone subscribes to Local Standings, we collect the email address used at signup, the name and billing details required to process payment, and a record of which reports were accessed. Payment is processed by Stripe under their privacy practices; we do not store full card numbers.
Site analytics. We collect anonymized traffic information — pages viewed, referring source, approximate location, device class — to understand what people read. We do not run advertising trackers.
What we do with it
Subscriber information is used to deliver the publication and operate the subscription. We send subscribers each month's issue, occasional editorial correspondence, and operational notices related to billing or access. We do not share, rent, or sell subscriber data to third parties.
Public information about ranked businesses is used to produce the reports. Business owners can request a correction to factual errors at any time by writing to geoff@localstandings.com. Editorial judgments — rankings, scores, written analysis — are independent and are not subject to removal on request.
Cookies
The site uses a small number of strictly necessary cookies to operate the subscription and load fonts from Google Fonts. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Your rights
If you are a subscriber, you can request a copy of the information we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted. Write to geoff@localstandings.com. We will respond within a reasonable time and in any case within the windows required by applicable law (including the GDPR and CCPA where they apply).
Changes
If we change this policy in a material way, the new version will be posted at this URL with an updated date at the top. Subscribers will be notified by email when the change affects them.
